How Coaching helps your Business Succeed

Today’s leaders face multiple challenges on a daily basis. They need to influence others; achieve aggressive results; motivate a staff; present ideas effectively and impress senior management. As the pressures of business increase, so does the need for coaching and feedback to help today’s leaders optimize their effectiveness.

Here are some examples of when Executive Coaching can make the difference between success and failure:

You have a new CEO and your senior team needs help adjusting to the new management style.
Your Head of Production is brilliant, but she doesn’t present her ideas effectively.
A Marketing Strategist has just been promoted to Director, and he has never managed people before.
You just hired a key executive and you want him to acclimate quickly so that he can have an immediate impact.
Your VP of Finance is alienating some of her peers.

A recent study estimated the return on investment for coaching to be between 500 - 800%. Giving someone the advantage of focused attention and feedback may be the wisest investment your company can make.

How the Process Works

The coach works with the individual and key members of the organization to gain agreement on developmental goals.
Assessment tools (such as the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator and the Career Architect card sort) help to clarify individual strengths and liabilities.
360° feedback which is gathered through individual interviews with boss, peers and subordinates, gives additional insight into organizational effectiveness.
A plan of action is formulated and a measurement strategy is agreed upon, addressing these issues:
What specifically does the individual need to do differently?
How will we measure success?

What specific results will tell us we've succeeded?

The coach and client meet weekly or biweekly. The client reports on progress against action plan; the coach gives feedback, shares insights and helps client to problem-solve when difficulties arise. Videotaping or role-playing may be used to improve skills.
Feedback from key members of the organization measures incremental progress.
The individual’s confidence and contributions increase as skills develop and positive results are realized.
A summary report is compiled with input from key constituents, highlighting areas of improvement and areas where continued focus is necessary.

Process can be customized to meet individual and organizational needs.

The Value of Executive Coaching

A 1999 survey of 4,000 corporations who used coaching as a perk for top performers found that the primary benefits were:

Bottom line results, including enhanced profit, client service and competitiveness
Improved individual performance
Development of people for the next level
Retention of valuable staff
